Contrary to popular belief goldfish can live up to 25 years in the wild, and they grow more than a foot long in that time. Though because of improper care for them they tend to live up to 10 years in captivity.
At any rate fish actually live longer than an average hamster, which is about 2-3 years. People are just terrible at keeping them, treating them more like living decoration than a pet.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with TitanKyojin – they may not have done much, but those fish were actual, living beings.
Actually, the tartar sauce sacrifices itself and absorbs the dirt and germs, leaving the breaded fish filet ready for salvaging via the 5-second rule.
