Buying cheap is why your footwear is breaking down. Go to DSW at the very least and get something the next step up in quality. Plus, so many Payless stores are closing you may as well find a new store.
“A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an *affordable* pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.
But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that’d still be keeping his feet dry in ten years’ time, while a poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.
This was the Captain Samuel Vimes ‘Boots’ theory of socio-economic unfairness.”
The scary part about this is that it’s very true and not just for boots; poor people have to pay repeatedly for cheap goods that wear out quickly, which only serves to intensify their poverty over time, while the wealthy can afford to buy lasting goods which saves them a bundle in the long run.
“Why don’t you buy better clothes?”
“Because being rich is chewper than being poor.
“Take boots, for example. A rich man can afford to pay more upfront for a good pair, and a poor one will have to settle for the cheaper ones. But the good boots will last you a year and the cheap will last you a season. Ten years go by and you have spent way more on cheap boots than what expensive boots cost.
“That’s why I -only- buy boots.”
Bug really hasn’t bought shoes for quite a while, Payless has gone out of business.

you can find a PayLess?
we had one in Shopko (closed) and there was another company here in town, but it closed just before Shopko/PayLess did.
Payless went out of business…
I think payless closed down.
Oh man, I have bad news about Payless. I assume you haven’t heard.
*doffs hat and salutes teary-eyed the economic massacre of all 2100 Payless Shoe stores in the US*
…and Canada. However, there are still 790 stores in Latin America and International for you diehards.
And Payless is GONE!
Maybe you can go buy your new shoes at kmart before they go out of business.
