I don’t believe in much, but I do believe in my classification of geekiness. Every person I’ve ever known who has displayed any amount of geekery could be easily categorized using this strip as a guideline. My friends and I are all second class geeks; we’re out of the closet about our geekiness, but we’d be rather concerned if one of us started dressing up like a cadet from Starfleet.

Er, why a repost? o.O

Read first, ask questions later.
OK – I admit, I also read the comic before the blog and was thinking “I’ve seen this joke somewhere before!” (I had – it was here.)
Enjoy the break.
Be fair. From what I’ve seen, people often include the details in the most current update that people will actively see, not necessarily the second one in which people automatically assume they’ve already read/seen.
Oh, ok.
Oh A repost. I thought you were being subtle with pudgy geek Bugs
You can hate me for saying this, but Bug 2009 kind of reminds me of Garfield 1979, what with the small eyes and heavier bodies.
But this can be said of just about any comic though, Garfield and Peanuts come to mind among others.
It’s true! I’ve thought of that very same comparison myself.
Seems like the artwork for most comic strips start off raw and real, then, after a few years, evolves into something…ugh…cute. After perusing my archives (something I’ve never done) I kinda miss the old look. I might adopt some of the old look when I get back.
Bug is always adorable!
In 2012, he is compact and cute.
In 2009, he is pudgy and huggable.
And comparisons to Garfield are never a bad thing…
Adam, my dear friend;
If you need a break you don’t re-post!
You reach out to your fan base! Your fellow comic-guys! Your… whatevers.
Had you given anyone previous notice (previous-er than what was given) we could have punched the clock for you!
In fact, sitting here, right now, I have a good one about [edited for safe keeping – cuz people are sneaky! You gotta watch em.].
dammit, i just re-read through your whole strip like a month ago, i would have delayed that had i known a rerun week was upcoming. although, i still laughed loud enough to make my roommate stir, so i guess it’s ok
Don’t get me wrong, but your drawing style has really improved over the years. i mean – really!
Yeah, the Bugs are much more crisp and defined these days. I still like these old strips, though! π
Thanks! Some of the old bodies look terrible, but I kinda like the way I drew eyes a little better.
What about Troi…can I get away with dressing like her?
If you think you can pull that skintight outfit off. ‘Course we’d expect you to act like her as well (speak in a friendly, yet dull tone and point out obvious emotions).
Dang it! [Bless You!]
It took me years [until seconds ago] to get her out of my mind!
Now [as always] I’ll have nightmares [the opposite of nightmares] about her and those skin tight…. [and, BOOM goes the dynamite]
There needs to be a 2.5. Out and proud geeks who have some fashion sense, will not decorate their homes with geek paraphenalia and will surely not buy every set of Mystic Warlord of Kha’a produced.
A second class geek will at least find one room to geekify. Without that, I’m afraid they’re demoted (or promoted, depending on your point of view) to a third class geek.
I’ve been know to wear a tail in public, but I don’t think I go as far as the guy pictured…
This made me realize how much the art has improved since you started. Great work, man! Have a great vacation, even though it sounds like you’re working through it.
Thanks! It’s a “working vacation,” but I’ll still make time to fly kites, get ice cream, twirl in place, throw rocks at ducks. ya’ know, typical rom-com montage stuff.
Throw frisbees at dogs that may or may not be yours?
Couldn’t agree more. The old bugs are fun, definitely, but the later ones has another dimension in that the bugs express more emotions and reactions by their poses too. So yeah, artwork has definitely improved. Haven’t really thought about it until now when todays rerun made me browse some of the older strips.
That said, frame four made me laugh loudly. Especially the clerks reaction. Priceless! π
About Once a month I have to argue with my friends and defend the fact that I agree with Rorshack at the end of Watchmen. It’s usually at least an hour long. So do I get a badge for being in the Second class or an ID card, decoder ring…
Is this the first ever repost?! NOOOOO.
If it’s the first repost ever, then Adam was WAAAY overdue for a break! π
First thing I noticed was the “old school” style of drawing bug (I hate to admit this, but I’ve never read the blog-I hang my head in shame).
Second thing I noticed was the First Class Geek wearing Spock ears at the same time as a Geordi LaForge eye . . . thingy.
Nice. Have a great vaca, dude. You deserve it. We all await your return with baited breath (which is really a gross expression, if you think about it).
lol That’s because it’s supposed to be “bated breath”. Bated = with great suspense/anxiety/excitement. ^-^
Best “Superman” line is from Craig Vetter’s “Underground at the Daily Planet” from a 70’s Playboy issue.
“Everyone knows he’s Superman. You can see that sh!tty red ‘S’ under the cheap white shirts he wears.” ~ Hippie Jimmy Olsen
i got a dam good laugh outta todays strip i think in some way i tend to be all three types of geek, it just depends on who the company is at the time and wat class they are at as well
I’m somewhere between class one and two. I’m open about being a bit of a nerd but I don’t have ewok bedsheets. i DO have a giant imposing Dalek on my wall
I’m between third and second class around people I don’t know too well. Around my friends, though, I’m between second and first class.
I guess I’m a…1 and 3/4? But I’m a nerd, not a geek. = P
I don’t demand to purchase non-existent products, but I sure do love to wear/show off my cosplay in public. Plus I’m always ready to spout my obscure knowledge and I have an immense, proudly-displayed collection of nerdy paraphernalia. ^-^
I don’t mind reposts, but they shouldn’t be part of the archive.
The data on Starship Enterprise states that Izzie C. is a first class geek. Evidence shows her on her scooter, with a fez & bow tie, pretending to be in the Time Vortex.
He’s… a vulcan Jordie?

I have a quiz based on it.
