Conversation Contributions – originally posted [2-5-10]
It seems like every time I enter a conversation that my friends are having, it’s about something that I either a) have no knowledge of, or b) have no interest in. It’s like they all just got done reading the same article in National Geographic or something. My dumb ass comes waltzing in as they’re in the middle of discussing the hardships of Anglo Saxons or talking about how the migration of wombats affect climate change. All I got rattling around in my head is some quotes from Tron and my unwritten dissertation on why Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was a good movie.
This strip sums up how I feel in almost every serious conversation (I once actually used the response that’s in the last panel). I just don’t have anything to contribute to “boring adult” conversations. I thought when I grew up, I’d understand why adults enjoy talking for long stretches about politics and football games, but I’m 38 and I still would rather talk about my favorite Samurai Jack episodes – that one where Aku tricked Jack into going into the graveyard and he was attacked by the undead was so cool, wasn’t it?
And pray to God they don’t ask HOW it is anything like “Krull”.
“What?! Well, if you don’t understand that, you should watch the movie again.”
Just pretend you actually know what you’re talking about and they are just too dumb to understand you. Just like me right now. I’ve never heard of the movie “Krull” before.
DAVID TENNANT! i think… the profile yes?
I’m so with you Adam, although I tend to be quiet in most adult conversations until the subject comes around to games or movies I know about.
I remember this one from it’s original posting, and I have since used; “And they invented poptarts” as a medium to enter conversations.
Also i feel much the same way, I prefer talking about just why exactly there was fire when the Deathstar blew up over why the President does ANYTHING. hehe..
So why was there fire when the Deathstar blew up?
To be honest, I’ve never thought about it before…
The Deathstar had to have lots of oxygen on board to keep all those happy people breathing. So when the explosion from the reactor hit the oxygen it created the firey explosion of goodness that only Star Wars could provide. Speaking of, now I need to go watch it again…
*Like*
Well, also when you have a high energy source like a fusion reaction, it will vaporize metal which will then appear to burn as it cools and recombines with just about anything. There’s some video around that happening during a-bomb test back in the day.
I know exactly how you feel, I can’t talk about sports and cars, those are boring. I can talk about video games for hours on end, why can’t my friends all be geeks too?
I disagree with you on the temple of doom; I think that movie should be stricken from our history and all knowledge of it erased from people’s minds.
No, that’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
“that one where Aku tricked Jack into going into the graveyard and he was attacked by the undead was so cool, wasn’t it?”
Yes. Yes, it was.
Jaaack! I don’t remember having seen that episode. I feel like I am missing out on something now.
*muttering to self* wonder if that is on the DVD in the gameroom….
My personal favorite is the one where he visits where his home should have been. The entire episode is done without dialogue and still manages to tell the story with vivid detail. Also, the one with Jack and the Spartans and the one where jack fights shadow jack were intense
I enjoy the Samurai Jack series so much. They do variations of styles on occassion. An episode that sticks out is Jack at the rave, complete with pacifier.
Aku!!
I like the episode that’s from the perspective of one of Aku’s minions.
my favorite is the ep. with three shortened down mini eps -Jack Tales(XV) Three short stories about some of Jack’s confrontations. He confronts a two-headed riddling worm, a family that feeds on metal, and tries to rescue a fairy from a gargoyle- and i like the last one the best it shows how kind jack is and how much he is willing to sacrifice for others
HA!!! I like adding “yes, but what has it done for the people?”
Try being a 67 year old Grandmother with this problem. My my kindergardner grandson is so impressed that I can name all the X-men and the Justice League. The quilting ladies, not so much.
You. Rock.
Can you be my grandmother?
This is actually a handy lesson reposted at a timely… time. One of my roommates is having a bunch of people over tonight tonight to hang out and listen to and talk about Jazz. I enjoy listening to it, but I can’t talk about it on anything resembling an intellectual level.
Looks like a bunch of musicians are about to learn about the time when John Coltrane invented Pop-Tarts.
Also, my favorite Samurai Jack episode was either the one where Aku shapeshifted into a woman to trick Jack, or the one where Jack fought the lava monster.
MY favorite Samurai Jack episode? Oh geez, so many to choose from. Probably the one where…he invented Pop Tarts. Yeah, definitely.
(Never heard of Samurai Jack, but then…I”m in my 50s. Ask me about Bugs Bunny. THAT one I’ve heard of)
I prefer the Three Archers, but you won’t hear me complaining about Jack and the Zombies.
I do this all the time with sports talk. “Yeah, that guy hit a home run and then made a touchdown! He’s so awesome!” Really should pay more attention to sports…
this made me think of that family guy ep. were peter acts like a rich person
The graveyard episode is my favorite too, precisely because it’s so eerie. I think the creepiest zombie was that one freak with the horrendous shriek and the crazy-long arms.
He could grab you from anywhere, and the last thing you’d ever hear would be that scream… *shiver*
Notable runner-ups include the tower with the three archers, the seven basket-assassin-robots, and the first episode with the Scottsman.
