It’s also pretty sad that circus acts have pretty much died out. I don’t care if I am a grown up: circus, here I come! I’ve run away from…my cats (?) to join you!
I went to a circus once a very long time ago when I was about 10. I wasn’t interested in it at all. Wanted to go back and play Nintendo. Still feel that way, only now it’s a PS3.
Not by entertaining people better but rather because people with Coulrophobia now know that they can excuse themselves from going rather than having to man up and endure for the family.
Way to make Coulrophobia sound like Hypochondria… just because there’s no phobia for “I don’t like how the circus smells” doesn’t mean you have to ruin it for everyone.
Nah, we went to the circus once before the internet was available to the public, and everyone hated it. The animals were so obviously demoralized and just going through the motions we felt sorry for them. I think it’s the environmental and animal rights movements that killed the circus. Circue de Soliel is still successful because they got rid of the animal acts.
Part of it is also that Cirque de Soliel’s acts are still things that impress: mostly amazing acrobatics. I saw their “O” show in Vegas, and I loved it. The acrobatics, the water works, and the way they incorporated it into a quasi-story. The music was immensely good as well, with acrobatics matching the music and the “story”, all of which contributed to the mood.
They did still have 2 clowns they used for comedic… breaks? Almost like commercials. While I didn’t mind them, they were the low point of the show, and some of the people I went with didn’t like em at all.
I think that it’s the fear of clowns, cultivated by pretty much everything that wants to scare you. Seriously, blame the media for amplifying fear of clowns, they’re not that scary untill you start worrying that they’ll kill you.
But yes, the circus seems increasingly boring.
HAH! today I learned that Breaking Bad is just being filmed in a carnival
I don’t know why I like that ringleader so much.

It’s probably better this way. What would modern kids even contribute to a circus show?
“Ladies and Gentleman, we present: The Inept Five!”
Pfahahaha, made me laugh out loud.

Urgh, Circus, nest of clowns. Didn’t go there, don’t want to go there, lest run away with them.
For some reason that phrasing brings to mind images of a vaguely hive-like place where clowns are crawling up and down the walls like insects.
It actually sounds kind of kickass.
You think they’ve got it bad. It seems all the clowns at least have run away to my place of employment.
You work for the government?
The circus needs a tumblr account.

Hate to be a grammar geek, but it’s “Ringmaster.”
I like him swatting away the runaways.
It’s also called “Ringleader.”

But I may change it anyway to avoid confusion.
Pfffttt I say leave it the way it is-that’s what you wanted to call him then that’s the way it stays!
