No, Canadians don’t consider the United States as having a monopoly on calling themselves America; They ( The US) are only one country in two continents-full of countries that could claim that label.
If you are talking about the continents, then it is either North America or South America. There is no continent called America. If you are talking about “United States”, then you could be talking about the United States of America, or the United States of Mexico.
If The United States of Mexico can abbreviate to Mexico, then The United States of America can abbreviate to America. No one will confuse America (country) with North America, South America, or The Americas.
Not really. There are 5 continents. Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania and America.
There is no problem with people refering USA as America if they really want to(besides some complaints about arrongacy) but I really wish people were constant about it. Even in serious places you can see someone call it USA and America while using America to refer to the entire continent. Hell I have ever seen America being used as Canada + USA and as equivalent to North America.
So the conclusion is don’t use it at all as it is simply easier to work with.
There are six continents, recognised as being tectonic plates with significant land masses on them: North America, South America, Africa, Antarctica, Australia, and Eurasia (Oceania being a tectonic plate in the Pacific Ocean without a continent on it). Europe and Asia are further subdivided because the land mass is so large. North and South America are separate continents, collectively called the Americas, with the inhabitants all technically called Americans. However, what are residents of the USA supposed to call themselves – “United Statians” doesn’t have a particularly nice ring… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plate_tectonics#Current_plates http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/american
man, last night found i have bruises ALL OVER my legs! wtf man! i was drinking the night before, but i didn't do anything but lay on the couch and watch tv. they are seriously on all sides of my legs. it must have been the hockey player thing.
I just attribute my mysterious bruises to sailing… racing club 420s= permanent bruise-coloured skin on the shins, hips, forearms, calves, elbows, back, back of head, shoulders, knees, and thighs
Actually in about a half step, the hypo-assassin would have already had his shirt pulled over his head and been pummeled by said Canadian hockey player until the refs broke it up. I mean every Canadian knows that, it's like a rule in the NHL.
That's me, totally. Then I bang into something really hard and don't get a bruise at all. My husband's theory is that my bruises are predictive… if I have a bruise show up, that means that in a couple weeks I'll bump myself there.
I often get mysterious bruises, then I realize they came from laughing so hard at Bug. Gotta love the docile, newspaper-reading bug/werewolf.
Hes only a werebug
you do realize were- is a prefix meaning “man” right?
OMG BUGWOLF!
wait wut? (LOL Just realized Sonic Unleashed got it wrong too! They call him a Werehog, but he’s a… HedgeWolf?)
Pretty sure Sonic’s inherently a werehog.
Actually, I think ‘were’ means ‘blood’. I get this from the fact that ‘blood money’ paid to end a feud is called ‘weregild’.
ah man.. cheap shot at Canadians
we're uesd to it. i live in america now and there are almost as many canadian jokes as there are german jokes.
Ha, there you do it yourself: Canadian don't consider themselves being part of America.
