Actually! There really were the equivalent of ancient Pompeiian post-cards; if I recall correctly, there were these souvenir coins that visiting Romans would buy. Tourist trash has been around for as long as there have been tourists, I guess.
The volcano at Pompeii wasn’t showing any activity, and when it did it happened so fast they where all frozen in place by the ash. Also volcanic ash is quite fertile, so their farms would do quite well.
Perfect timing for that new Pompeii movie, which is basically just Titanic meets Volcano.

Yes, They did. According to a documentary on Pompeii. Pompeii was the equivalent of the gold coast. Rich people went there for vacation.

From what I read, there was a really bad earthquake a decade or so before the big explosion, so the city was already underpopulated.
They could always try and go with Pink Floyd cards; I’d consider buying those.
