Perfect on the brush size, I just compared Fridays (last hand drawn strip) with todays, and today looks like the classic bug I love. Keep up the good work!
I’ve thought about turning my hand lettering into a font, but I’ve never liked how that looked when other cartoonists did that. Besides, I enjoy hand lettering.
Second, you and I must be in social groups. “Life/this situation/the news I got just kicked me in the ovaries” is something which women I know say pretty frequently.
On the website, either width of lettering is fine. However, in the reduced size that comes out on the RSS feed, yesterday’s (with the slightly thicker lines) is better. Not a huge difference either way.
And Now In Other News:
Your cartoon rates as one of my top couple dozen (out of many many that I read) – it is an essential accessory to my morning coffee. Thank you for all you hard work and generosity in providing it.
Excellent work as always, Adam. I honestly didn’t know that you hand-drew all these until your mention of the Cintiq yesterday. I bought a Wacom Graphire4 last week and it’s still weird to use, but I’m hoping it’ll help me actually get off my ass and draw some stuff.
I’m especially impressed at your lettering! I’m glad you enjoy it. I think today’s is better than yesterday’s, though as Doof said in yesterday’s comments, it was quite fitting that it felt like the words were ‘yelling’ at the reader, as it was a comic about cavemen :p
It looks great. Yesterdays lettering looked fine, but might work better for “bolding” your font. Either way, I’m impressed that you hand letter it all. In elementary, I was one of the few girls that got held in at recess to work on my penmanship. All my other friends had frickin’ calligraphy spilling out of their pens, while my homework looked like one long prescription. Great work, as always!
Certainly. I normally draw my comics on paper which people can purchase by clicking the “Buy!” button underneath the strip. Of course, if I draw on the Cintiq, that won’t be a possibility. I’m not sure if I’ll stick with drawing on the tablet or not. I plan to go back to paper next week and see how I feel.
You can make hand-drawn fonts pretty life-like these days by having several alternate glyphs for each character and having OpenType programming automatically cycle through them. It’s particularly easy to make with the Glyphs app. It’s what I use, too.
Nah… with women, life kicks you in the ovaries. When it’s pregnancy, it’s purple nurples, cuz HO. LEE.. CRAP. Nothing like the first day of breastfeeding to make you beg life to chop them off.
damn, son–i’m super-impressed you hand-letter these little jewels. i can draw (cartooning in a style i call kid art), but my handwriting sux. 😛 did you go to art school? if so, for how long?

Seconded!
Thirded!
Fourthified!
Fifthified!
Sixed? This is too deep English for me :S
7thed! I’m cheating by using numeric digits now.
Holy cow, you men that ain’t a font?!
It looks like a font you might as well just make it into one so you can type things out instead of having to write thm.
I know. That is one steady hand.
My penmanship looks like Chinese gliphs.

Lookin’ gooood! I like the brush change!
It is still a little.. narrower? The old lettering was more stretched out. But that’s a minor nit-pick.
It all looks good to me. Keep up the great work!
All those poor Fallopians.
I beg to differ, life kicks me in the ovaries about once a month.
this!
Once a month? Try 5-6 days a month.
Hear, hear!
First, yeah, the comic looks great.
Second, you and I must be in social groups. “Life/this situation/the news I got just kicked me in the ovaries” is something which women I know say pretty frequently.
It’s hard to make lemonade once life has kicked you in the lemons…
Yeah. Usually we just make little gurgling noises for a while…

Thanks! Glad it’s part of your balanced breakfast.
I’ve always liked the phrase, “mangle my mamgoes”.
I’ve always liked the phrase, “mangle my mangoes”.
Oops. I’d like the ability to delete comments.
Amazing. Life usually just punches me straight in the face.

yesterday you said something about original art for sale. i’d like to know a bit more about that.

I don’t know how long it takes to draw but, couldn’t you pop out a hand drawn one as requested?
How does that work if two people want the same one? Duel to the death?
I’m dying on Bug’s pose in that last panel. lololol
