Funny as hell. The all three panels had me laughing.
Suggestion:
Maybe you could make a Pluto vs. Earth weak. Only because I just read them and thought that a few of the characters (Winoki and Ken) were pretty funny and could probably be used in the strip along with our favorite bug and his bug friends (Kid Bug, Lady Bug, Nerd Bug, Zombie Bug, Death Bug, God Bug, and Bug Bug). Just a suggestion.
Oddly enough I flirted with doing all these things in my high school years (well, in my favor, amish bitches be fine, and I like the idea of corrupting them) and then my life got more interesting. would that be called unjumping the shark ?
I believe the opposite of jumping the shark is called growing the beard, named after Star Trek: The Next Generation, in which the series (so I hear) got noticeably better around the same time Jonathan Frakes grew out his beard.
This may come as a surprise to you, but ALL fursuits have that blank stare. It's p. fucking creepy. That's the reason I'd never be able to do it in one of those.
Personally I've never done the "fursuit yiff" thing, I use mine to entertain people, since I get a kick out of that. But as much as I'd really, REALLY like to tell you that furries don't use them for sex and it's all a stereotype, that would only be a half-truth. The MAJORITY of furries don't do it, but there are those who do, heck I'm friends with a number of them. Ironically they're usually the ones who complain the most about stereotyping when someone makes a fursuit sex joke.
I once dressed in a furry costume for a fundraiser, not a turn on. It was cold out and I still almost keeled over from the heat. Therefore, I cannot imagine doing “it†in a furry costume.
Awesome. I have a friend who use to do research in McMurdo Station, Antarctica, and she told me about how this one guy she worked with didn't want his picture taken because he honestly believed that it would steal his soul. I don't think it's an Amish belief, more like Inuit, but don't quote me on that. I think the belief stems from the idea that the image on a picture is an image of your soul, and capturing the image would mean capturing your soul. It's similar to the old belief that mirrors were not a reflection of your image, but of your soul. That belief led to the superstition that is was bad luck to break a mirror. It also led to the belief that mirrors were magical, hence their presence as magical object in many tales, and the idea that vampires have no reflection because they have no soul. Sorry about the rambling-ness this post!
Oh, and quick question for Adam: Do you hand-draw these comics, or do you use a computer program? If by hand, what medium do you use, especially for shading them in? If by computer, then what program do you use? Ok, so question*s* then.
And because I feel obligated to put in a little plug for the website that directed me to this awesome comic, here's a link: http://www.penumbras.info
Learning is never long. And that is all true it is not just an amish thing. But welcome to being a bug fan. I got my sister hooked from Coolness and the baby adoption one. Woot bug you turning us all into bug fans.
Yeah, I know the Amish don't have any hang-ups about getting their picture taken but it made me chuckle when I came up with it. Thanks for getting yer sister on the Bug bandwagon!
I don't know about the stealing of the soul, but I do know that the reason the Amish don't allow pictures of them(drawn or otherwise) is because they see it as vain. In Amish culture, you can't show any vanity. This is also why they don't wear anything stylish.
In the movie Witness at least, they were kind of annoyed that tourists thought they were "quaint". (Although anger is a sin, right? I'm not sure about annoyance.)
I asked Adam the same question, and I'll give the answer since he forgot to –
"Hello Eric,
My tools are rather primitive. I use mechanical pencils, Faber-Castell artist pens, Sharpie markers and Strathmore smooth Bristol paper (11 x 14). The biggest help comes from an drawing board I picked up that has a built in straight edge:
Not all furries are arroused by anthropomorphic animals. That's a stereotype pushed by all those cop shows and what not. Most furries just enjoy the anthro art.
I personally thought a bug's mortal enemy was a bird or raid. My cat doesn't kill bugs. She just brings them inside and watches them…which is annoying.
It depends on the cat. I have three cats. Two of them swatted at bugs And I’ve seen at least one of said two eat the bug twice. However the third cat just sits there and stares at them.
Actually, the Amish do have a hang up on getting their picture taken because it draws attention to the individual instead of the community. However, there are some Amish that allow you to take their picture so their family can earn extra money.
Though, considering, I actually do have a useful purpose for that katana; I use it for sword-fighting practice. Nothing like the threat of accidentally chopping bits off for forcing your skills to improve at a quicker rate!

PS. Amish people are funny, live in PA.
week, not weak. Kinda like Zombie Week early in the comic.
heh… furries…lol
All hope is lost, bug has joined the furries.

Ducking the shark, maybe?
I believe the opposite of jumping the shark is called growing the beard, named after Star Trek: The Next Generation, in which the series (so I hear) got noticeably better around the same time Jonathan Frakes grew out his beard.
Humm…Cat and Rabbit suits.
Not sure what comment to make about bouncing and/or pussy, so I'm typing this one.
Especialy furry or starting programming on Erlang.

rofl! i love how the bunny suit has the same blank stare that bug has. Loved the second panel, i know too many people who've done that.
This may come as a surprise to you, but ALL fursuits have that blank stare. It's p. fucking creepy. That's the reason I'd never be able to do it in one of those.
Omit the blank stares from the costumes and I still wonder if “it" could actually be done in a fur suit?
I imagine it'd get awfully hot in those things.
Why, yes. Yes it does.
Personally I've never done the "fursuit yiff" thing, I use mine to entertain people, since I get a kick out of that. I imagine the ones that are appropriately equipped for such use also have good ventilation to avoid this problem.
Thank you Dogmeat for sticking up for the better majority of furries. Hey, most furries don't even own a fursuit.
Agreed with Smoothie.
Chafing.
jajajajajaj great!
Aww… I bought a katana three years ago. That explains a lot.
You had me at Samurai Sword.
Note how the guy even stores the sword improperly
Actually, jumping the shark, in Bug's case, would have involved the introduction of a puppy with big moist eyes.
It could have been worse than a katana, he could have bought an exact replica of the 'Sting' from The Lord of the Rings.
between the goat and the furry costumes, you're really proving you CAN draw more that simple boxy bugs! *grins*
Ha ha. The panel with the Amish bug was hilarious. The "My Soul" part is what did it for me.
I've also heard it as "nuking the 'fridge"

Sorry. Much longer than intended. :/

I find that there is no greater compliment than making someone choke with your humor. Thank you!
I find that there is no greater compliment for a humorist than finding out they made someone choke with laughter. Thank you.
… *facepalm*

u mad?
Disappointed, really.
…and MTV. Ugh. Didn't like the tight focus of their furry documentary.
I wear a tail because it's funny 🙂
A bug dressed up as its mortal enemy. Erm, I think the cat will still bat him around, he's not fooling the cat.
I personally thought a bug's mortal enemy was a bird or raid. My cat doesn't kill bugs. She just brings them inside and watches them…which is annoying.

another comment about your adds, damn good job I see newegg and bleach advertising on your page, doing an amazing job Adam
omg! Bugs bunny…!
I was going to pop in and say something about furries, but it looks like it's already been done.
I was going to disclaim that I'm not a furry myself, I just know several, but then I realized that this is an anonymous post so who really cares.
Ewwwww furries :z
It's not jumping the shark if you never come down
Bugs have furries.
Brain = broken.
Wow, so I’ve jumped the shark twice now!
What happens if you start taking sudden interest in the Amish, whilst returning from buying a samurai sword, in a fursuit?
Then you are, in all likelihood, an escaped mental patient, and someone should probably remove the katana from your person posthaste.
Or, send a bunch of mennonite twilight loving thugs after you, so you can be a furry defender of the Amish against their wayward bretheren.
I owned 3 knives, a first aid kit, and a snake when I was 11. I jumped the shark YEARS ago
I have to be thankful for this strip for making me look up “jumping the shark”. At least Adam can claim its educational!
Funny, as “bug” Himself is an anthropomorphic animal..
Actually, the Amish do have a hang up on getting their picture taken because it draws attention to the individual instead of the community. However, there are some Amish that allow you to take their picture so their family can earn extra money.
At least, that is what the Amish reality tv show breaking Amish claimed. I cannot find a clip at the moment.
Well, crap; I’m 2/3 on this one, and the only reason it isn’t 3/3 is that I love technology too much to even be interested in the Amish.
Though, considering, I actually do have a useful purpose for that katana; I use it for sword-fighting practice. Nothing like the threat of accidentally chopping bits off for forcing your skills to improve at a quicker rate!
