One of my friends was the reporter on the scene. She was working for a tiny local newspaper — the kind of weekly that mainly focuses on how the high school basketball team is doing and what’s coming up at the church bake sale, and they became the reporters for the major, major story.
Yeah, I always found it ironic that a band that sounded like them would have one of the meanest looking dudes in all of ’90s pop music. Didn’t the guy with the crew cut look like he should be on a beach somewhere kicking sand in a skinny guy’s face?
“We’re gonna go down to / Electric Avenue” to participate in the 1981 Brixton riots which left over 300 people injured.
The “Zoot Suit Riots” were actually real race riots in WWII San Francisco, where Navy personnel on leave would look for Hispanic “zoot suiters” to beat up.
Thanks for the comments everyone. Now I’m depressed.
Please, no one tell me the “happy truth” behind I’m Blue by Eiffle 65. A song I absolutely cannot NOT dance to…

But there are so many fun songs by QUEEN.
Bicycle – a song about riding bikes… in the nude [oh my],
Ogre Battle – These guys played DnD in Eddies campaign world of Rhye,
Great King Rat – a big bad from Rhye,
You’re my best friend – Written by John to his soon to be wife.
Yes! And Keep Passing The Open Window is about trying to deal with the daily struggle against suicide! As is “Don’t Try Suicide”. And “Too Much Love Will Kill You” is about Brian May’s wife leaving him because of his affair with another woman! And “I’m In Love With My Car” is about how much Roger Taylor loves his car!
On a happy note; ‘Rainbow Connection’ is more than just about rainbows.
It’s a song that teaches kids that they’re capable of being more than mundane and yearn for something great.
I had a dream last night where I won the lottery and donated a million dollars to your patreon account. You went insane from trying to figure out why I did it.
Did you lose weight recently Adam? I recently began a reread of the entire archives, and noticed that the bugs are noticeably svelter than they were after you finally hit your stride and the comic had become what it is now.
99% of “this song sounds like [good thing] but it’s really about [bad thing]” are lies. Most of the time, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Pretentious idiots say otherwise to make themselves feel clever/important for “figuring it out”.
Sometimes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. MOST of the time, it’s about either love, sex, or both. And about 10% of the time, the lyrics mean absolutely nothing.
on a lighter note, Mr Blue Sky not only isn’t secretly awful, but isn’t even a metaphor at all. the full Concerto For A Rainy Day it’s part of was written during a literal rainy day that was sapping the writer’s energy, and Mr Blue Sky is literally just about the rain going away and the sun coming out.
It helps if you only listen to songs like “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.” That one’s pretty straightforward.
Forty years ago, as of this past Tuesday.

Midnight Musings Upon Completing the Works of Byzantine Philosopher Johannes Philoponus, Act II, Scene III. Also very straightforward.
“Jamtrocities” a missed opportunity
“Guitar Trio”, especially the recording by Band of Susans. Although the Nietzschean implications might be doomworthy.
Sounds like someone just heard the terrible truth about Ace of Base.

This is why I hate people who say icky things about The Darkness’ “Growing on Me”.
The Big Bird song about the ABC is actually about what to do in case of emergencies in the range of atomic-, biological- and nuclear disasters.
/Wake up sheeple!
//Big Bird is a warhawk
I am not ashamed to say I looked up “Walking on Sunshine” after reading.
Hard to know all the truth about the Armenian Genocide. I’ve read that the Kurds were induced to do it for the benefit of the Turks.
On a less somber note, when I’m depressed about the current lack of protest songs I just google “Free Nelson Mandela”.

My wife’s comment about this — “Don’t worry — be happy!”
There is that classic date rape Xmas song “Baby it’s Cold Outside”…
I’m glad I’m not the only person who thinks that song is creepy.

I know I’m really late to the party, but that video made me laugh when I really needed it, so thanks!

And, just cause we all love the song;

You’re going to hate me for this.

A real ‘Weird Al’, here. 😀
You flatter me, sir. 😉
I guess I shouldn’t point out that “Happy Birthday” celebrates another milestone in the unending march to our own impeding demise.
As my Geometry teacher says:
“Happy birthday, happy birthday
sounds of crying fill the air,
people dying everywhere”.

Well, thank goodness “Walking on Sunshine” is just an upbeat love song. At leas,t that’s what I figured from reading the lyrics.
Oh! I feel I should add something else:
