This is the first time I had to google something from your comic. I’m both proud and disappointed with myself as I actually knew the term from the Series of Unfortunate Events books.
Truly great Series unfortunately. He did refer to lots of classical concepts which is the series was so good. Made you think he did. Thought-provoking it was.

I googled it too because I wondered why there was what I recognized at first as a roman centurion in the strip.
Now I know something that I will probably never use in my life, except to boast about my knowledge of antiquity :p
And here I thought everyone knew that phrase. Was I the only one to read Bullfinch’s Mythology as a kid?
I was more of a D’Aulaires’ kid myself, but I knew the term, too.
