A psychologist friend of mine put forward that clowns were fear inducing because they, on some level, resemble a zombie or other monster. They have dead white faces, garish red mouths, swollen hands and feet (swelling happens during the decay process), and an array of other fear-inducing features. I wasn't afraid of clowns before but now I'm afraid of both clowns and psychologists.
It was scary, but to know that a real-life serial killer (John Wayne Gacy) was targeting kids and wearing clown makeup made me hate clowns. I dressed as a clown one year for Halloween, after seeing them in the circus and before finding out about the serial killer and plenty of people told me I had a scary costume. I was five and only had on simple makeup. I was not covered in white makeup, but I did have an oversized costume with lots of big polka dots on it.
Dude, I saw IT at the age of 19, I think it was, and I got nightmares. First time I ever got nightmares from a movie. It was the scene where the man on the moon turned into Pennywise… shudder.
Clowns ARE creepy! Ever since I saw "It" when I was 8 I have never been able to be around a clown without screaming and running away. There were clowns in the movie Zombieland and I screamed everytime there was a clown on the screen…
I actually used to work for a clown, at Walmart. He had legally changed his name to K-nutty, had to become a manager when money got tight, and was always juggling the fruit in the produce department, he got fired for sexual harassment though.
Clowns are the most terrifying thing ever. There on my list of great evils, right up there with spiders and child molesters.
Loving your comics! Every one of them has literally made me laugh out loud, and I can relate to so many of them. Keep it up! You're definitely a favourite 😀
I know this is a funny strip, but after reading an article about how there are less and less people go to Clown academy (yes, they have clown school) and many real good hardworking clowns start losing job here and there because less and less people hiring them (Thanks “It”) I can no longer laugh at this strip.
Clowns are only creeping because in last 30+ years most people have seen more depictions of evil clowns than they have seen actual clowns. I’m old enough to remember when admitting you were afraid of clowns would get you laughed at. The evil clown motif was originally an inversion, like a killer bunny. It got used so much that became trope.
Well, a serial killer (John Wayne Gacy) being a clown did not help clowns from being seen as creepy monsters. After all anyone could be hiding under all that makeup.
Haha– I love panel four!!
Are you Canadian? (Cirque du soleil)

I don't know if you're serious or not, but this is almost as funny as the comic. 😀
Great as always, Adam.
I blame the movie "IT"
Amen!
"IT" was pretty creapy.
YES! I blame "IT" as well!

But Tim Curry is awesome!
That panel two clown-bug may be the scariest thing I've seen in a while.
Since I did clown for awhile, I have a strong appreciation today's strip! Too funny and I had to chuckle out loud at panel 4!! Nice one Adam!
Not many artists can get away with explanatory texts in their comics, but you damn well do!
They walk among us. Mwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
…Among us? Great, now I'm afraid of everyone! They could all be clowns…
…oh wait, I'm not afraid of clowns. Nevermind.
🙂
I watched ''It'' when I was three and ever since I've been afraid of clowns. Damn you Pennywise!
OMG I watched it at 3 also! Internet hi-five!
Ok . . . I’m done.

I must say Bug clowns are even creepier than real clowns… Great comic.
i love that a clown's "disguise" is just not wearing his makeup.
Love panel four.
Mr. Bug, are you now, or have you ever been a clown?

I love panel 4..very very funny
I love this comic! I used to be a clown. Is anyone scared of me?
this is the funniest thing you will ever see that involves clowns

One time in a forum I used to frequent, a fellow poster drew a picture of “me” depicting a Mind Flayer erupting from a monster-clown’s mouth.
I was so delighted that I immediately secured his permission to use it as my profile picture. ^^
Sounds like someone had a disturbing amount of clowns in his childhood.
One is a disturbing amount of clowns.
