Based on it’s appearance, it’s one of the classic fruit pies, before chocolate was added to the flavor list *(Which makes since, as this is a flashback to Adam’s youth). Since it is represented by a black package, one can assume that the flavor would have a darker colored package. This suggests that the pie is Cherry, Blueberry, Peach, or Blackberry.
In my city, they recently reconfigured a few streets and added a lighted crosswalk for this reason…but it was for college students who needed to cross a city street to get from the dorm to the college. If you make it to college and don’t know how to cross a street carefully, well, you’ll henceforth be known as “Chubbs.”
We did have crossing guards when I was a kid. Some of them were just older kids, rather than grownups. You had to ignore them, because they would try to get you to cross RIGHT in front of traffic. They had a lot of fun trying to kill us younger kids.

Watching people fail to make that distinction always annoys the crap out of me. We didn’t get away with mistakes like that when I was a kid.
To be honest, I wasn’t 100% sure that was correct, but it sounded right.
I honestly don’t care. I use both with reckless abandon.
