This of course is because they ported Duck Hunt to the SNES. With upgraded graphics and audio of course. Oh, and that **** dog never laughs at you anymore…
I only used that pistol once. Now that you mention it: Does this pistol still work with flatscreens? Didn’t it have to scan the electron beam in the tube?
Ah, it was even simpler than that, it would insert a black screen with white dots where the targets were when you pulled the trigger. If the lens saw light when the trigger was pulled then you would register a hit, else a miss.
Yeah the cutting edge of 8-bit technology – I always like SEGA’s trap shooting and Safari Hunt.
To answer your question, test it and see if it works – my issues were – connecting the dang thing – then having enough screen brightness to have the Light Phaser work as intended.
Yeah, I had a moment of “Hey, It’s Tuesday. Why hasn’t this comic strip updated to a new one yet?” Then I saw the notice that it is only updating three times a week now.
It’s just a light sensor. The game turns the screen black and puts a bright square on one target, and if the gun sees light, you hit that target. If not it tries the next one. So it will work with any type of screen if the response time and contrast are good enough. (and in many games you can cheat by shooting a light bulb, if they don’t do an all-dark frame first to check.)
I think the “?” in the last panel (God bug) is wrong. Other than that, great strip 😀
I was going to say the same thing. It would probably scan better as “Hey, all I ever got was this muumuu!”
Oops! Good catch. Will fix.
I’unno, eternity of no pants seems pretty solid to me.
Not only do they still have them, but you can also get the pistol to go with “Duck Hunt.” How else could it be Heaven?

Man, I think going from C&H’s Depressing Comic Week to this gave me whiplash.
At least throw a deck of cards into your pocket or something.
So THAT is how it’s spelled…. Not how I expected.
That feeling you have when you remember that Bug is no longer published every weekday.

Again my reply becomes a standalone comment. What’s up with that?
Up? Heaven? Making a “HELL” of a lot of assumptions, aren’t we?
Don’t they give out little bathrobes or something for the poorly prepped?
