Gary Thuerk invented mass emails (spam) which is damned close. He is clearly a psychopath and its reasonable to wish that the fleas of a thousand camels infest his loins for eternity.
While naming people responsible… Brendan Eich is responsible for javascript (together with the people at mozzilla and ecma), without javscript there would be no popup ads (nor popunder ads).
Seriously, the web is a pretty nice experience if you turn off javascript, and any serious page works just fine without it. (yup, microsoft.com and facebook.com both complains when javascript is off).
However, my main contenter for people to kill would be the inventor of spambots on irc (and yes, I know this is obvious so I promote serial killings here)
I blame coders who enable (and enact) nonsense. Sure you say “it’s just a job” but remember, being paid to assist with a crime still makes you an accomplice. The web is only tolerable when javascript is disabled by default.
Meh, you could also just poke your eyes out so you don’t have to see the popups. The web runs on javascript today. Turning it off is a very bad idea. Wait… I don’t even get popups? Who gets popups?! I haven’t seen a popup in like 20 years. You guys may have viruses. Seriously.
Pop-up ads are never a problem if you browse carefully or take precautions. And they are very easily dismissed if you get one. The guys getting my sword are the jackass who came up with clickbait ads and the punks who put use fhe writing fashion on their community news feeds.
I play the kind of video games with screaming health bars, my idea of annoying may be skewed.
I’m thinking we could create our own version of Dante’s Circles of Hell. Circle 1, the spammers mired in a mountain of useless email, Circle 2, the Clickbait creators forced to press a button over and over just to breathe, Circle 3, the Pop-Up Ad Guys forced to fight sticky flying advertisements with a fly-swatter for eternity, Circle 4, the ALL-CAPS forum guys who are forced to listen to people screaming at them…. 😉 Circle 5, The Trojan-Horse-Virus Guys – forced to stay inside a giant condom while bugs(Not the Hilarious Adam Huber Kind) crawl all over the outside of it, Circle 6, Internet Trolls spending eternity with their mouths sewn shut (wasn’t this one of Dante’s?) while listening to AM radio talk shows, Circle 7, People who don’t correct the misspelling in an email subject line – especially when the discussion has gone on for years – forced to attend 5th grade spelling and grammar class for eternity, Two more levels to go… but I’m obviously late for my mental health evaluation… 😀
Magnificent. But what about the mobile banner ad people who make the “x” button deliberately small and hard to hit without getting booted to the App Store?
Redirect ads are the ones that really annoy me. Pop-ups show up in a different window, thus when you close them, you can go back to what you were doing. Redirects make you go somewhere else, so not only does it interrupt you, but you have to spam the back button a lot to get past all the redirect prompts. And then it goes and reloads the redirect stuff agin a few seconds later.
How about idiot politicians that decide, that every nation website HAS to have a warning telling users that the site uses cookies. Every single one of them now has a “Btw, this site uses cookies” and an okay button.
The real retarded part is, that my browser already has a setting where I can define how I want cookies to be treated, so stop bleeping telling me about cookies, just ask my browser if I’ve told it to accept them or not and be done with it.
While on the topic of annoyances, those popups that asks me if I feel like answering a few questions to improve the website – my answer is always NO! so stop asking me..
Yeah and they pop-up when you first enter the site – like I haven’t had a chance to be disappointed with your site and you want to annoy me right on the get go? If I am not under a time constraint I will play along but the feedback is not going to be all that helpful or good though it might cause a chuckle for any sentients reading the text sections.
Hey Adam, did your internet guys change something?
Since yesterday I’m getting either a real quick “Error establishing a database connection” or the page is loading at abysmal speed.
Windows 10 as well as Android 4, Firefox both times.
Spam-in-a-toaster, an invention that no one wanted.
I know just the guy you’re looking for!

What about the guy who made pop-under ads?
That one should be poped-under ….. at least 2 meters of “septic sludge”.
Kill him and instead of going up, he’s going down to the other place.

Without javascript they would just be written in another language, probably VB scripts. ::shivers::
Don’t blame us coders for peoples nonsense.

I have never commited a crime with my code. I’ve never created a popup ad either. Popup ads aren’t crimes necessarily.

Also, it’s Javascript. That alone deserves death.
I’m totally with bug guy on this and other related nuisances.
I’d happily do it a few thousand times to whoever invented telemarketing…..

Dude. Awesomeness.
Magnificent. But what about the mobile banner ad people who make the “x” button deliberately small and hard to hit without getting booted to the App Store?
Wha…? The guy who invented pop-ups is going to heaven? There is no justice…
Read to the end: That was just the time-limited, cost-free evaluation version.

I’m thinking, when they get to the gates of heaven, and they are trying to approach to get inside…
Pop ups everywhere! All sorts of obstacles popping up everywhere they turn, anywhere they try to go. Oh and it’s actually hell, not heaven.

The Pop-up ad folks retaliated and hacked the website.
…probably
Same here.
I’m just praying this site wasn’t the time-limited, cost-free evaluation version.
The guy who created pop-up ads actually apologized for doing so.
