Saturday Sketch [8-11-12]
Today’s sketch was drawn a little while ago when I went through my “gray phase.” I’ve gone back and forth on adding shades of gray to my comic. I know it’d help to distinguish certain things (shirts, bushes, doomsday devices) but I feel compelled to stick to good ol’ black and white. An artist that knows how to play with black and white (and I’m not one of those artists) can really make an illustration pop. That’s something I definitely need to work on.
Are those Mad Men bugs in the upper left? If so, they need cigarettes.
Star Trek Bug!
Good decision, Adam. Keep it simple!
Initially I misread and thought you said a “gay phase”. I’d be interested in seeing those sketches!
I like the look of the strip. I think you’re doing just fine now.
Have you ever seen/read Digger? ( http://www.diggercomic.com/?p=3 )
It’s just about all done in black and white. In fact, it’s the only webcomic I can think of, besides yours, that is just B&W. Some start off that way, then switch to color.
Yeah, I heard of that comic. Great example of someone using black and white to its full potential.
Well, xkcd is also black and white.
Am I the only one completely mystefied by the fact that both “gray” and “grey” are considered acceptable spellings with no difference in the definition of either word? I have the same problem with “canceled” and “cancelled”. I didn’t mean to be profane or grotesque. Sorry
American english: gray, canceled
Other varieties of english: grey, cancelled
Just looked it up.
The gun-toting bug in the lower left looks like he could TOTALLY be an Awesomenaut hero. That would be incredibly BA. Harasser, probably, using pun-based skills and a niece minion summon.
so is star-trek bug a “red shirt”, because it would be a shame to lose him. should do a strip dedicated to the trekies (that is if you haven’t yet), and then you could do a star wars one with a carbonite bug. love your thoughts…totally awesome strip.
with some ideas he can pass on to his fitness clients.”Some people don’t like to be pushed to the point of exhaustion,”
