It should be noted that these are 12-hour clock based. I do not know if military directions from countries that use a 24-hour clock would say things differently. (I should note that I’ve also never seen an analog 24-hour clock, only digital. Mayhaps I’ll look that up in a sec…) Like, 12 ahead, 18 right, 0 behind, 6 left ?
No. Both Canada and USA military use 24 hour clock, and neither uses anythig but the 12-hour clock for directions. Too many syllables, perhaps?? Besides, when I think of 17 hrs, I ‘see’ 5 o’clock in what passes for my mind.
I have seen a 24-hour pocket watch. It belonged to an astronomer friend. They’re actually rather awkward, because the minute hand runs around in the usual fashion, while the hour hand plods along at half=speed, and noon is at the 6 o’clock position. It would take a LOT of getting used to. Digital watches, on the other hand, are SOOOO much better in 24-hour time. If you wake up and can’t tell what time of day it is, your 24-hour digital watch will tell you if it’s morning or evening. That actually came in handy once when I thought I had slept the clock ’round, and had really only been asleep for 25 minutes…
Interesting that Richie McBug has to wear shorts to show that it’s warm, but wears only his hat in the cooler climes. Funny, though, and in panel three, slightly disgusting, but even funnier.

Top Hats, of course are a MUST HAVE for all us upper-crust types, you know…
Verily, indeed, and pip-pip-cheerio to that!
I actually wear a tophat…
Totally want a top hat for Christmas.
Don’t forget the monocle. It wouldn’t be complete without the monocle!
Now THAT’s funny!
Maybe that’s why Scrooge hated Christmas 😛
Coconut on your six? Help, please.
“Coconut at your six o’clock!” Or, approaching from your rea- sorry too late.
Likewise, “check six” means look behind you.
Simple military directions work like a clock. 12 o’clock is right in front of you, 3 on your right, 6 behind you, and 9 to your left.

Richie McBug!! Took me a minute but very clever. And funny.
And, being rich, that must be his trophy wife. 🙂
Or one of his mistresses.
I assumed she was simply hired to be radar. Seemed funnier.
Ahh, yes! That could be his Pepper Potts. Good call.
So apparently, the kid has a snowball bazooka with a lock on feature. I want one of those!
“Bank” right? I see what you did there!
Ughh! There s a Top Gun ref to be made here and I just can’t hit the wording right. Something about great balls of money maybe? I have failed
You’ve lost that punning feelin’…
When I saw that top hat auger-in, I knew it was all over.
Great work, as always, and I feel like the idiom in the title could be made into a good strip in its own right.
