Well when you cook with C-4 it leaves a very distinct taste into your food. That is why you wrap your food in foil before hand. Also, try not to inhale the fumes too much because they can be deadly.
4rd panel is obviously a reference to The Simpsons. Yes, the one episode where they found a frozen guy who had a bite in him and it belonged to Grampa Simpson.
First of all, when I went hiking with my dad before, that actually was our mantra. Verbatim.
Also, one nitpicky little thing: shouldn’t it be “honey- and salmon-scented”? Without the hyphen, it implies that he’s just carrying around honey with him. I’m sorry. I know how terrible that is. It just caught my eye.
And not to sound like a racist and make myself look like an all-around jagoff, but if Bug is implied to be an American hiker, wouldn’t his interrogator be Iranian? Juuuust sayin’.
I’m sure they do. But I would guess that the hikers Adam is parodying are the ones captured and interrogated by Iranian police as spies, since those were the ones that were all over the news.
I always look forward to your comic and am never disappointed. Your twisted humor and spot-on illustration start my days with a good laugh. Thank you for being so reliably entertaining.
LOVE the mustache on Ranger Bug in panel 4. Can’t believe with all these comments above me, that no one mentioned it. I guess too many were concerned with hyphens.
Also, there is another “or”…you could be trapped under a rock and have to slowly cut your own arm off. That kinda stuff usually makes the news too.
Or starve to death in Alaska because you didn’t take a map or know what the heck you were doing. But apparently he went out happy anyway. And then he got a movie.
Adam, I discovered this delightful cartoon this week (yes, shameful life I’ve had…) and 8’m going through the archives. This is THE best first panel so far.
Still around and still love your comics Adam, never missed a day 🙂
I being an avid hiker thinks this is Awsome!
Nature’s Valley bars certainly TASTE like C-4.
I have to ask – how on earth do you know what C-4 tastes like????
Well when you cook with C-4 it leaves a very distinct taste into your food. That is why you wrap your food in foil before hand. Also, try not to inhale the fumes too much because they can be deadly.
I’d tell you, but then I’d have to kill you. They asked me to stop doing that all the time.
You know what… Same question. o.O
It’s an “acquired” taste.
Ah great, nice job Adam, you’ve now copyrighted the word “or”.
I don’t think it was intentional, but I giggled about it too

3rd panel is Grizzly Man.
Yeah, because that was certainly the first story ever to have a frozen person in it : /
Congrats! You win!
Your prize is a tropy that reads “there are 3 types of people in the world, the ones that can count, and the one’s that can’t”
=)
Nope.
Otzi?

“Honey- and salmonscented” is my entry for this contest.
because our own government certainly never mistakenly captures anyone?
I’m sure they do. But I would guess that the hikers Adam is parodying are the ones captured and interrogated by Iranian police as spies, since those were the ones that were all over the news.
Ahh, going topical, I see.
So THAT’S why nobody buys my sunscreen.
Well, back to marketing the blood-based sea-water-proof version, I guess…

those are sunglasses, not a mustache.
Panel 4=moustache; panel 5=sunglasses
You might want to look at the Bug on the right. If those are sunglasses, I’m Shirley Temple 😉
I agree: Mustache Bugs are my favourites.
I wish I could pee while twirling around right now, but I’m at home.
Shower. ’nuff said.
