Video games aren’t meant to be realistic, they’re meant to be fun. Finding a dead man with a hole in his chest and having to report it to the police would take up time you could use for the hunting itself, thus it’s a detriment to your fun, thus game developers don’t include corpses when you’re out hunting. #RuleOfFun
Besides, if the corpse is there from the start of the game, it would have to start decomposing as soon as you started a new game. Do you want to miss out on a whole quest line just because you didn’t find the body fast enough? #PermanentlyMissableContent
I’m not sure what you’re talking about. That first part is fact: video games as a medium are meant to be fun and so prioritize enjoyment. And as for the second part, I know -I- don’t want to miss out on quest lines I didn’t know existed because I took my time.
For the second part the corpse could only start to decompose after you found it fot the first time so as if the dude juuust died and you happened to stumble upon it right after, totally by accident. Such a coincidence.

Your brain works in very strange ways.

But, that would mean that the killer is still in the area!!

I don’t know that I accept your initial premise. Law and Order says that joggers are the ones who find dead bodies, not hunters.
And what is a jogger, but a hunter of HEALTH?!
I can’t help but be reminded of Tom Lehrer’s “The Hunting Song”.
Silly, fun and a take on hunting perfectly suited to a game.
