That was Judo, though. And it was funny because there’s no “attacking” in Judo. There’s “throwing your opponent across the room”, but no “attacking”, and therefore no chops.
Dang, now I wish we did Karate Chops more often in Aikido, but it’s use your opponent’s force to get them away from you, or into a pin on the ground so they can’t move.
I’m a grandfather and I tell my kids and grandkid stories from Star Trek. Usually along the lines of, “When I was a kid, Star Fleet captains didn’t pay much attention to all that pansy Prime Directive crap.”
I’m mightily impressed by the umlaut.
Also, just as my opinion: I get the idea of the second panel (and it made me laugh), but I thought the positioning of the Bugs was a little awkward.
Hell yeah! More HAI-YA-ing needed!!!
heh…ipods and haymakers…
I see kidbug has a classic iPod (or possibly classic nano if the proportions are correct).
…I have a black belt in Taekwondo, if it makes you feel better.
Brown belt karate here.
Ninjits….*gone*
I dunno if it’s a factual error or if Granpa Bug is getting senile, but the Andorians were hardly ‘mighty’. 🙂
Yeah, and the humongous fish grampa caught wasn’t nearly as big as he claimed it to be.
Let him have his stories.
In the ’70’s you didn’t even have to throw rocks…

always preferred Kirk’s mighty “two fist club punch” myself…
A Vulcan neck pinch should take out even a badass Tellarite, if they have nerves in their necks.
And yes, good umlaut. Or is it “ümlaüt”?
this is true now theres more mixed martial arts but they dont really do the ol karate kid stuff
Language pedant here… that’s no umlaut on the ï, that’s a diaeresis.
Is it just me, or does Grampa Bug look an awful lot like God Bug?
And Nerd Bug vs. Cool Dude Bug is awesome in the first panel!
It’s odd, but I think the most recent champion of the chop is Austin Powers.

This passed for humor in the 90s. Bug is funnier.

I read “Naive fool!” and immediately thought of Invader Zim 😀
Great work, Adam!
Grandpas in the future tell Star Trek tall tales? Take me there now
