Hey, I’ll complain about “self-driving cars” today. Any system–ANY SYSTEM whatsoever–that can kill a human should have a manual override with an operator who can competently use that system (and, say, prevent it from killing a human). In other words, the only safe way for self-driving cars to work is if a fully qualified and licensed driver is behind the wheel, fully attentive, and ready and able to immediately take full, manual control at any time. Given the attitude many people have toward self-driving cars, I just don’t see that happening in most cases.
Make that “given the attitude many people have toward driving”. Licensed drivers also kill people.
You do realize that this is the equivalent of saying I will only get into a taxi cab if I am the one driving it.
It’s really, REALLY not. A fellow human, with human knowledge, experience, and perhaps most importantly, the ability to perceive reality the way that a human does, driving a car is vastly better than anything that machine learning can ever produce. It poses the same kind of danger that getting on an airplane with no pilot would, even though planes have had autopilot for ages.
Congratulations, you have proven yourself overqualified for an old coot ranting about self driving cars. You may pick up your crazy old person papers at the desk.
And miss Crazy Boris experience?
