The third panel has a variety of things that I found funny, so I debated over which part I should comment on. I decided: it amuses me immensely that Tool Bug drinks White Zinfadel.
It’s the U.S. Independence Day. We celebrate our freedom by drinking, lighting fires under meat, and sending explosives into the air during the hottest part of the summer when all the grass is kindling.
It is awesome and nerve-wracking at the same time.
The look of fascinated rapture on fourth-panel bug’s face as he listens to the “war stories” of his “friend” (I cannot, in good conscience, call nerd-bug bug’s friend without the quotey marks) is hilarious.
Also, we got rain today, thank God. One misplaced firework in my county would have sent a low blue flame shooting across the lawns of the entire upper Midwest.
I love how Cool Bug is more concerned about the loss of his fanceh wine than the, I don’t know, complete dismemberment of his right hand and upper forearm.
This is especially funny, because that’s pretty much exactly what I did a few days after the 4th. I’ve got a scar on my collarbone from a 3″ mortar detonating in the air a few feet away. And one helluva story 😀
Heh, friend of my daughter did his tour in Trikit, Saddam Husein’s hometown. The day they hung the bastard he said, “The rest of Iraq got celebratory fireworks, we got a motor attack.”

Tragedy is when it happens to me, comedy is when it happens to someone else.

It gave me a good giggle, too! 😀
Is it intentional that the title of the strip is a Thousand Foot Krutch song? (Please say yes! :D)
I was actually thinking about a line from the movie The Crow.
That’s so weird, as soon as I read the title in my head I read it with those two guys from the crow chanting it.
This strip was the lead on Comic Strip of the Day.

Ah, pyrotechnics in the middle of the year. Americans do that. Well, guess it’s fun too.
I once accidentally blew up a cow…
