My feeling about jet packs is basically the same as my feeling about flying cars: I drive. I see the other people who drive.
I don’t want THEM in flying cars. OR jetpacks. I mean, people already are crashing drones into things — I am not looking forward to having to scrape someone off my roof.
Cars operate in 2D unless things really go badly, and a large percentage of drivers are barely able to handle that. Go to three dimensions and all bets are off. Then there is the issue of those people who don’t watch their fuel gauges.
Well, I found working prototype…. https://youtu.be/mdQK_odgedk?t=6m28s
They say they’ll be in mass production by 2017, and YOU can reserve YOURS for a minimum deposit of $5,000!
……Okay, so the final cost is the price of a small house, but who needs a silly ol’ living space when you can FLY? 😀

I know, right? Who the hell is gonna travel in those first ones? I’d just be thinking about that scene in Star Trek The Motion Picture where two crew members are accidentally gooified.
Haven’t been keeping up with the jet pack news lately?
Just saw on the news the other day about those new “hover” board things that are catching fire.
But, I wonder how many of those are hoaxes, just for big settlement money.
By catching fire do you mean to say that they are becoming a thing, or literally catching fire when used?
Literally catching fire.
Melting to the ground/have to buy new pants fire.

Yes. Still with the fuel gauges. Even with beepers and warning lights.
One guy I saw was so stupid; he, apparently, ran out of gas so he pulled over and was walking to the gas station with his little gas can.
He pulled over at the top of a hill. The gas station was at the bottom of said hill…
An old XKCD comic comes to mind here…

Adam, don’t forget: Being the poor webcartoonist that you are, you won’t get one of the good ones https://www.bugmartini.com/comic/up-up-and-no-way/
You know, I kinda felt I did another jet pack comic before. At least it’s a different angle.

This is my exact attitude toward teleporters.

I’d be more worried about whether the same person really comes out the other side, personally.

You just need the right incentives, and suddenly the philosophical questions evaporate as easily as your original body does.
They more or less have jetpacks, but they’re more in the vein of strap-into than strap-on — basically a small VTOL craft in their own right.
This looks more like the real thing: JetPack Aviation – YouTube
They also want to include drone-like autopilot capabilities in an upcoming model.
We do have jetpacks, but their big problem is fuel efficiency.
