I also had this problem, until I discovered there are tabs at both ends of a plastic wrap box you can push in to hold the roller in place. I had my mind blown that these had apparently existed for decades, but no one ever tells you about them, so I assume they’re some kind of secret.
I am soooo happy that ‘bum’ doesn’t have the same meaning for you in the US as it does for us here in the UK. Especially after seeing the title and the the first panel.
I’m not sure if it fits with either the UK “bum=butt” or the US “bum=homeless person”, but the title’s a pun on the phrase “a bum rap” which is (old) slang “an unjust accusation”. Hope that helps.
Actually, we use both meanings for bum in the US, plus the unjust accusation one. Bum=butt is for polite company, your little grannie who would be deeply disappointed in your vulgar usage otherwise. Ditto for bum, which is also an archaic usage for homeless person. You do hear bum rap a lot, or you did, maybe not so much anymore?
I get two or three nice pieces and then the one that won’t come off the roll and only rips part way when it does, pulling the box out of my hands and adding more wrap to the problem. And this is the name brand press and seal stuff, not the cheap crap, really irritates me. If it weren’t so damned useful I’d quit buying it.
I still have a box of that clear wrap that I bought about 25 years ago. I went the Tupperware/Rubbermaid/Glad route ages ago, and haven’t regretted it a bit. I feel sorry for those who haven’t discovered the convenience of storage containers over frustrating film wrap. (Yes, there are sandwich containers that do not require multiple handling/mauling of the sandwich.)
Panel 2 was me last week. And I’m 45!
When I was younger the packages had a serrated piece of metal below the flap. I had no trouble tearing off a neat square piece then.
Ahh sweet memories.
But those are so dangerous!!!!! :-p
They still have those – at least for the major name brand that I buy.
They don’t help.
Kirkland Signature brand cling wrap = problem solved! It’s the only cling wrap worth buying and comes with a nifty slider to cut it!
Psssst….

I, too, recently discovered this amazing wonderment!
Of course, I discovered it at the very end of the roll.
My luck; the next roll I buy is when they’ll decide to discontinue this feature.

I’ll try the tabs thing – but really, I’ve learned to be happy if I end up with the rough shape of Florida.
I had no idea — and I’m OLD! Thanks, I’ll sure try them. I usually get at least a Tennessee-shaped piece, which works if it starts out big enough.
I feel your pain. I capitulated and went to scissors, and silicone stretch lids.
How do you like those silicone stretch lids? I’ve been considering getting some, for this very reason.

Actually I only know the UK meaning and can’t make heads nor tails of the bum pun 🙁

I like how my brother can’t coat things in it. Doesn’t realise you gotta stretch it as you wrap it or it don’t ‘stick’ muhahaha
Aussies still have the serrated slicer thankfully. Maybe the secrets you fold it first like paper though?

But containers with a square top also have a rhombus top!
I have no problem ripping it cleanly. (Most of the times it doesn’t even accidentally stick to itself!)
I just can’t get it to stick to anything I am trying to wrap…

What happened to your may the fourth Star Wars comics? I thought it was supposed to be a tradition!
Sorry about that. Been really busy the past few weeks. Maybe next year I’ll finally tackle the prequels.
