Yeah, at some point you have to decide if you’re rooting for the predators or the prey. My wife and me, we decided that we like things that are closer to the top of the food chain. They tend to be cuter, what with their eyes placed for forward-facing binocular vision and chase instincts and stuff.
The day before our wedding, we were in a hotel room on the 30-somethingith floor of a hotel in Boston, looking out the window, and a pigeon flew by.
And exploded. Just … disappeared in a cloud of feathers. We barely saw the peregrine falcon that hit it.
We considered this a good omen, because we identified with the falcon which got the meal, not the pigeon that was the meal. My wife’s two favorite categories of animal are “any type of raptor — hawk, eagle, falcon, owl, veloci-“, and “any member of Felidae, from black-footed cat to tiger.”

Veloci- are the best type of watchdog. They even keep the homeowner off the property!
