Hot-Headed Actors
For a double feature last night I watched GlenGarry Glen Ross and Margin Call. Both fine dramas, but they both had scenes of a main character in a bathroom, splashing water on his face. I know I’ve seen plenty of other movies where this happens. Have any of you ever done this? And does it actually help or are you still just as stressed as you were before, only now you have a damp face?
I can’t get over bug with rapidly drying pores. Bahahah his hands are so expertly rendered Adam!
I usually splash cold water on my face if I’m hot, or hot water on my face if I’m cold.
I do this. It’s really cool and refreshing. Like a breath of fresh air in an otherwise sterile AC building
Its used to shock the system and remove you from a hysterical state, like a well timed slap.
I use cold water to my face when I’m tired as hell and can’t take a nap, doesn’t really work but still worth a try..
When I’m stressed my face sometimes gets hot for some reason, I usually wet a paper towel with cold water for my face to cool off though, no splashy.
Running water through your wrists allegedly works too, movies don’t show that because it looks very sissy.
*dab dab dab* drove it home for me. Great stuff!
Minor nitpick but it’s actually ‘pH’ not ‘PH’. That is if you’re talking about the acidity of the moisturiser. If you’re not then don’t mind me (although I can’t think of what else you could possibley by refering to).
At first I thought the first panel read: “Guys in movie theatres who enter a bathroom…”. I was a bit confused. But it’s a good laugh reading it assuming that’s what the first panel says.
I tried it and thought “Great, now I can add soggy to my list of issues”
Also, solid movie choices. PUT THE MOISTURIZER DOWN! Moisturizer is for Closers!
Ha-ha! Nice!
I like the way glasses are cock-eyed on Bug with Glasses. Just like in real life. I’m beginning to suspect everyone’s head is irregularly shaped.
I also appreciate that unlike movies, television shows and other cartoons, the percentage of glasses wearers is closer to what really occurs.
This made my day 🙂 Love this!
Uh-oh. Bug at the sink has a “wide stance.”
This is great, so funny! I wondered why guys would do it. I’ve only seen girls do it to hide they’re crying.
I do it wake me up a bit when I’m really, really, tired and when I’m having allergy issues.
Use your pinkies, that’s the proper way for around the eyes.
There is something called “mammalian diving reflex” (I’m not kidding) which lowers the heart rate when you submerge your face in cold water… So yes, splashing cold water on your face will have a kind of calming effect… some birds present similar reflexes, research on diving reflex in bugs has been disappointingly slow and appallingly underfunded…
I don’t really get damp. And I do cool off. Until I get even hotter by having to break out the mop…..
Hey Adam, I had trouble getting onto the site a little while ago. It said that there was a server error or something akin to it. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t my computer, because I could get on to other sites with no issues. But obviously, I’m here now, so it could have just been a one-time only problem.
Sorry about that. I think it’s a hosting issue. I’ve experienced that too. I’ll look into it.
I get this sometimes when I try to comment.
More so, I have an extremely long loading time when I comment, but when I go straight from page to page its quick – like a cheetah.
…and then I go splash water on my face… 😀
No joke, I actually did the face-splashing thing earlier today during a stressful moment. It really does help, Adam! Your comics are so true to life. 🙂
nerd bug looks awsm in that commander suit
I’m happy that you got DEFCON right. That’s something they should do in movies. (Oh, DEFCON 5? That’s awesome.)
FYI: The blood circulation in the face is the brain’s primary radiator for dumping heat. Stress causes an increase in the brains energy consumption and subsequent heat generation. If it can’t get rid of the heat you begin to feel fuzzy or lightheaded.
Splashing water on your face cools the brain returning alertness.
your bodyheat can increase with stress, so water cools your face
I do splash water on my face, but it’s always more a matter of “Cold liquid to the face = alertness” than anything to do with panic.
