Due to the size of the English language, and the lack of size of most dictionaries, the editors of dictionaries must make decisions on which words to exclude. They tend to go with a combination of obscure words and words that are not quite out of common usage but are well known enough to avoid the need to definition. For example, check your dictionary and you might find that “gullible” is no longer listed.
ever since the downtime, i’ve had the ad coming up behind the comic. on today’s strip, it came up on top of the comic, until i clicked comments, then it went back behind it.
I sometimes have that problem as well, but, I get on the site on my phone, so that may be part of the issue… but the ad is very annoying… I just have to say adam, these comics are genius, keep up the good work… :o)
Realigning schwas = pure genius. I haven’t heard the word “schwa” in years. I think this qualifies for some kind of award…”Best use of the word schwa in the real world”
What a coincidence – yesterday, I found out my English/French dictionary doesn’t have the word “quiver”. How was I supposed to remember the word “carquois” when my Internet connection was down?
Love the comic! And yes, it doesn’t seem to matter what you take into the shop to get fixed, they always try to up-sell you something you don’t need…until it breaks.
I’ve always wondered why the dictionary explains the meaning of the word “dictionary”.
i have got to wonder how you come up with some of this stuff. how on earth did you go “dictionary = car”?
it’s actually pretty normal compared to some past strips.
I think It’s been long established that Adam is quite delightfully insane.

Must. resist. urge. to. look. it. up!!!!
…Nice try.
eyebrows on bug? Awesome 😀
I think if you rotated the schwas, they’d be just “e”‘s.
Well done.
*looks up definition of “shwas”*
Hehehe… Funny. 😀
So… am i the only one that cant read the comic because the ad is in the way? when i was finally able to read it i have to say, AGAIN hilarious XS
Sorry about that. I haven’t heard any other complaints about the ad. Can I ask what browser you’re using?
I think it’s more of a resolution problem then a browser problem.
I’m using Google Chrome and I’m fine here. Resolution of 1920×1080.
I use Chrome and I’ve had the issue before, but when I refresh the page the ad goes back to where it’s supposed to be.
I have the same issue with the graphic. Firefox 5.0 on Linux.

I use Firefox and the AdBlock Plus add-on. I never see ads anywhere 🙂 Especially awesome to block all the Facebook crap on the sides

Second-hand dictionary from an old lady. Genious.
Realigning schwas = pure genius. I haven’t heard the word “schwa” in years. I think this qualifies for some kind of award…”Best use of the word schwa in the real world”
possible recurrence of beet-top lady?
possible 2nd time bug has had eyebrows?
I still have a Webster’s Unabridged, though it keeps getting buried under Stuff.
But I’m sad to say, I almost never use it anymore, unless for some reason the Internet is inconvenient for the moment.
…Am I the only one who went to their dictionary (immediately after catching breath from laughing so hard) to look for the word “odyssey”?
Cos I did. And it’s there. YES! Collins Gem: Australian English Dictionary FTW! 😉
Nice car reference. 🙂
Loved Mechanic Bug! Totally like going to a car garage and having them add on “necessary” upgrades!
Comic = awesome as usual…
What a coincidence – yesterday, I found out my English/French dictionary doesn’t have the word “quiver”. How was I supposed to remember the word “carquois” when my Internet connection was down?
Didn’t take it in for a repair, though.
You know, just because it’s a “Webster’s” doesn’t make it a Merriam Webster. (No, I don’t work for them…)

My dictionary comes with both “Odyssey” AND “Gullible” now that’s quality for you!
yes, as others have mentioned, I find the bizarre correlation more funny than the comic. well, okay…the comic is funny too.
