Hahaha! and I saw this after 5-1/2 hours of mortal combat getting an nVidia 750ti to work in my Debian box. It didn’t even physically fit until I pulled out the motherboard and redid the water cooling.
I’m only 18, but due to growing up in a poor household, I grew up with the likes of Atari and the NES. As such, I really hate hearing kids whine over not getting an Xbox when they wanted a PlayStation, or some dumb crap like that. Listen, kid, I didn’t have a cell phone until I was 16, and t you’re crying over getting an iPhone 5 instead of an iPhone 5s? That phone is getting shoved down your throat, you little bastard.
I’m 41, and we used to dream of having an Atari 2600. We didn’t even get our first computer until 1992 when I was in college, and it was an IBM PS/2 with DOS 5.0 and a 40MB hard drive. I didn’t even get a cell phone until I was living on my own. Also, we had to walk to school uphill both ways in the driving snow.
Reminds me of Tom Smith (covering Frank Hayes, if I recall correctly):
“And we walked twenty miles to the schoolhouse, barefoot and uphill both ways! Through blizzards in summer and winter! Back in the good old days!”

everytime i hear that a kid is upset since they can’t have the latest stuff given to them i calmly remind them they use to be used for cheap labor in the really old days.
If you haven’t stared at a TV screen with stripes on it for ten minutes while waiting for your bandstation to finally load the data into you commodore 64, then you probably hadn’t had those weird tension head aches, as well…
I’m 19, so I grew up with an N64. However, I still can’t believe when people focus on graphics more than if the game is actually fun. Also, is that Dudebug’s son or something? Speaking of which, we haven’t seen him in a while, have we?
I feel exactly the same way, I grew up with SNES and NES and I still think those games look better than half the stuff we have nowadays because you can tell someone cared about it. I don’t give a crap if I can count the blades of grass if everything is boring and the game sucks, but if you give me a sheet of patterned green for the grass and make the stuff with character and build a story and set of mechanics that’s unique and fun, that’s what matters to me.
I’m sorry, a lot of NES/SNES games didn’t have any kind of story to them, a lot were just arcade games made into console games. Stop looking at the past with rose colored glasses, there were good and bad games just like now.
I never claimed that every game was that high of quality, but the ones that were blow most modern games out of the water. I’m sorry that I have a difference of opinion from you, but I don’t honestly think I’m looking with rose colored glasses as I frequently replay older games and I still play new games. Yes, there are plenty of great new games, and yes, there are plenty of great old games, but games nowadays just have something in the majority that feels different. It’s not all of them, but some.
My first console was the Atari 2600, which I may still have somewhere. My first computer had no hard drive. When I hear people whine about graphics I want to make them sit and beat Contra on the NES WITHOUT the extra lives code. Or heck, play Battletoads for 12 hours straight with their mouth taped shut so they cannot scream at that game.
HA! I just had my old 2600 out of storage the other day. Sadly, I need an adapter to get it to work on the newer TVs, which I’m too lazy to go out and find.
I lived through the Nintendo, Snes, Sega, Dreamcast, Ps1, Ps2, Xbox, and xbox 360 console wise. {i didnt own every system but i played my friends] Every time someone complains about grapics I want to strangle them myself. My Ideal game would be an RPG with lots of customization , choices, and endings.
Then on the side for Graphics i’d have another game which wouldnt have any plot or gameplay all it would be is someone taking a few hundred pictures of an abandoned building and rendered it into an graphics driver so it came together looking like you were actually touring the building.
Eventually when technology evolves enough combine the two. Right now there’s an Indie “game” called Japanorama where you stand in one place but is otherwise like my graphics game.
I love good graphics, but I still play my old games (super Mario 3, contra, etc). I hear these kids whine and I have that EXACT same “must not strangle” look as Bug. Thanks for the laugh!

“Gettin’ stabby wi’ it” was never so literal.

Barefoot!

To get to summer school.

Boy, let me tell you about the NES and Game Boy. And how much those cartridges cost. And we damn well liked it!
That’s why MY kids (when I have kids) are starting from the NES and going up the line until they’re old enough to appreciate the difference!

Maybe saving games to cassette tape on your TI 99/4A!
Save games? Pfft! We did it hardcore mode EVERY time!!
I played streets of rage from beginning to end twice in a row (because I selected the wrong option at the end boss).
I love how there’s a bug in a baseball cap all like “What…?”!
And the “must… Not… Kill…” Expression of Bug Prime.
Ahh, good old Pong. I remember it fondly. “Beep… boop… beep… boop.”

Dude, you grew up with Ocarina Of Time. That’s still better than every other game written ever.

Well at least those old games had more colors than Brown and other brown!
Baseball Cap Bug is now my favourite bug.
I want to make a Mr. Wrestling or Mr. Wrestling II “Sleeper Hold” reference… but those guys are older than an Atari.

I believe I am the only one who was alive when “Tennis for two” came out. Forget pong, kids, THAT was the oldest game ever!
Seeing reviews on Steam complaining about 30fps also makes me feel like this.
I’m not quite this old, but I remember the original Super Mario Bros. Like my parents before me, I say kids today are spoiled.
I am one of those “kids” you whine about. And no, I am not a graphics snob, not all kids are that whiny, and you used to be a little brat yourself.
