It's more about the state deciding what they think is best for people by trying to legislate common sense instead of letting natural selection running it's course.
Also, human contrariness is a major factor, someone that thinks they're in charge tells you you have to do something and you just have to prove them wrong.
Suicide is a right (not that I'm suicidal) – it's my body and I should be able to decide what's right for my safety. The gov't mandating too many rules like this leads to a bubble-wrapping nanny-state. And also, I find them uncomfortable.
They're not nearly as uncomfortable as you'll feel after a bad accident provided you even survive it. Your attitude is idiotic, but hey, like someone said let Darwin's laws do their thing.
It’s not to restrain your freedom, it’s to give others peace of mind. Say you got in a wreck and died because you weren’t wearing a seatbelt-now the other person lives the rest of their life wondering what they could’ve done to prevent it.
It's the same way with drugs; people have a right to use them. It's their body, let them do whatever they want. In fact, seeing as mainly republicans and Christians want drugs to be illegal is ironic because God gave us freedom to choose between right and wrong so we wouldn't be mindless zombies. So, by making drugs illegal, they're going against God's will (in a way).
Jep…
I don’t agree with what you’re saying. Taking drugs is illegal because it is not only damaging to the person taking it but it is also damaging to people surrounding the person. Besides, you still have a choice to take drugs anyway. I know hat people manage whether or not it’s legal. Making it illegal didn’t take away all choices in the matter. It simply gives greater consequences to take drugs. By the way, you feel so strongly for taking drugs. Any special reason?
Yeah, it sounds like the state mandating "common sense" and taking away a right to self-determination, but seatbelts also hold one in the seat more firmly, allowing better control of the vehicle.
great what else is a sin? Not using a turn signal? honking the horn in bumper to bumper traffic even though you know that nothing will happen? Cutting off an ambulance? Actually that is probably a sin.
lol buggod looked a lil like santa with a big o' fluffy beard, hmm as far as seatbelts they're a must i wont start my car until everyone in the car is buckled and if they are one of those ppl that refuse to wear it i tell em to get the hell out :
Really, the majority of the seatbelt law is the driver taking responsibility for those in the car. If he wants to endanger his own life, that should be his right, but driving without being sure that everyone (especially children) are using the safety devices should not be allowed. Which is why in my state, KY, the driver has to pay a fine for every person in the vehicle not using a seatbelt.
Also, suicide is not a right, and attempting it can actually have many legal ramifications, ironically, while being successful gives you none.
I wonder how many of those people who don't wear seatbelts are the same ones driving around with a cell phone glued to their ear, 10 miles above the speed limit.
As an Australian it's kind of weird to think about people who don't wear seatbelts. Here it's enforced by law, if the cops catch you without one it's about a $200 fine and three demerit points on your licence. And that's just if it's only you not wearing it, if you have a passenger of any age not wearing one you BOTH get penalised the same (or just you if the passenger is under 16). More demerit points if you are carrying multiple passengers who are breaking the rule. So yeah, pretty much everyone here wears seat belts, even people who own old cars that didnt come with them are forced to have them installed IIRC.
Its illegal in almost all states except Maine. and the fine is huge. Ive never received one so I dont really know how much. But the passenger doesnt get fined I dont think. Its been forever since I read that book/ took that test. Its just common to wear here now I guess.
I was in a head on collision back in 2004 in a small sports car vs. an SUV & would most likely be dead now if I hadn't been wearing a seatbelt. Instead I & my gf walked away with very minor injuries. And if you think you're such an amazing driver that you can always avoid an accident think again. Sometimes people do ridiculous things on the road giving you no chance even if you have the reflexes of a hockey goalie. The idiot crossed into my lane coming in the opposite direction & hit me before I could even blink.
After all that my gf's dad is still not wearing a seatbelt. I guess conservatives are conservative in everything. Even a personal experience of someone so close to him didn't get through to him.
Sorry for such a serious comment, but I feel strongly about the issue for obvious reasons. I'll be back to making goofy comments next time.
I am absolutely against laws that require you to wear a seatbelt, but I never go anywhere without wearing it.
I've known people who have died in wrecks because they were ejected or partially ejected then crushed by their own vehicle, and I've seen a wreck where the only reason the driver survived was because he was thrown from the seat, which was smashed into the steering wheel so hard that both seat and wheel were broken.
As far as I am concerned, it is a matter of personal choice. I have no right to tell you what to do with your body. Just don't try to make me pay your bills when you get hurt.
Actually, you are statistically more likely to drive bad when wearing a seatbelt due to the false sense of safety it provides. Also, it's like 50/50 it will help you in a really bad crash. Sometimes, they act more like a restraint keeping you within the area of damage. Had my dad been wearing his seatbelt he would not be here today.
Our school had a great solution – they scared us into it.
They had a comedian / former nurse tell us a story about how a stupid gorgeous 21-yearold girl broke her jaw and lost her looks. Also, some nerve broke (is that how you say it?) in her jaw so she cant feel half of her jaw ever again…
Me and my friends used to go on a coach to school every morning and we’d always sit at the back so the driver wouldn’t see us not wearing a seatbelt. We felt like commandos or free rangers or something!
liability, because large corporations and governments have better access to lawyers they can defend themselves against lawsuits. You and myself being ordinary people do not have unlimited funds to fight lawsuits.
What about lazy bugs?
I love how it's the crooked glasses bug again.
Ah Nerd bug, always thinking ahead. He might be my favorite.
Nerd bug: http://nooooooooooooooo.com/

God-bug is my favorite.
Also, I think there is someone else with my name on here who has been here longer than me. Ooooops.
…I guess I'll add a Y to the end of it! YEAH
I think my new favorite bug is chanting bug with a duck swim float, knee pads and a helmet. SO awesome. 😀
Hooray! I get to go to heaven! 🙂

"bubble-wrapping nanny-state" is an excellent phrase (and accurate description)!

Panel #2 is the best. Excellent reference to Freaks. Great movie!
"We accept her. One of us! Gooble gobble, gooble gobble."
Keep up the great work! ^_^

Very interesting. Can you provide a link that shows these statistics?
aparantly not XD
Glasses bug wasn't even wearing a seatbelt and he's one of them. one of them. one of them. lol

It worked. Also I probably wont drive. Ever.
All because she forgot her seatbelt. True story.

Yeah. I also never got, why trains and busses don’t need seatbelts. What´s the difference to cars?
