Rest easy, Adam. As long as you never deny necessary medical treatment to people on the grounds that their suffering will bring them closer to God while simultaneously accepting those treatments for yourself, you’ve got Mother Theresa beat.
Being a rabbi, I am not going to venture an opinion about Mother Teresa. Instead, I will comment on you contribution to society by quoting the Talmud (Taanit 22a):
Rabbi Beroka Hoza’ah used to frequent the market at Be Lapat where Elijah often appeared to him.
Once he asked [the prophet], is there any one in this market who has a share in the world to come? He replied, No. …
While [they were thus conversing] two [men] passed by and [Elijah] remarked, These two have a share in the world to come!
R. Beroka then approached and asked them, What is your occupation?
They replied, We are jesters, when we see men depressed we cheer them up; furthermore when we see two people quarreling we strive hard to make peace between them.
I’ve read some analysis of the “miracles” attributed to Mommy Terry. Not very miraculous. Yeah, she was a horrible person in that she believed in and actively worked toward having other people embrace their poverty and suffering as a good thing.
We sit outside and argue all night long
About a God we’ve never seen
But never fails to side with me
Sunday comes and all the papers say
Ma Teresa’s joined the mob
And happy with her full time job
Oh, wow, I cringed when I saw the mention of Mother Teresa, and quickly looked down at the comments… and was relieved. My faith in humanity is restored. So long as we *assume* that the homeless we pass by every day are not of our faith, we can carry on her legacy by making sure to do nothing to help.
It’s okay. Mother Teresa was pretty evil anyway. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Mother_Teresa
Sorry to burst your bubble Adam, but Mother Teresa was controversial at best.
Raaah
…and that’s putting it mildly!

I’m not Jewish and have never read the Talmud, but that part should make perfect sense to anybody. Thanks for informing us.
And, Adam, if cheering people up gets you a share in the world to come, you should get a recliner and a beverage of your choice when you get there.
Aw, thanks! I hope there’s a beer waiting for me.
Just be sure to chose the right cult for that.

Christopher Hitchins is a better candidate for sainthood than is Mother Teresa.
