My friend had live fruit ninja at his last birthday party, after borrowing (and washing) his neighbor’s model sword. It was the best party I’ve ever been to!
I’m guessing some of those sword maker bugs thank their lucky stars for renaissance festival dork bugs — who may even end up buying bug merch some day 😉
“If a patron buys from an artist who needs money, the patron then makes himself equal to the artist; he is building art into the world; he creates.”
I’m thinking “mine enemies” would be appropriate early modern “Shakespearian” English and still sound cool, whilst avoiding Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe like the Renaissance-Faire-goer is using.
I’ve read that using “mine” is only used in front of nouns that start with a vowel in early modern English- the same goes for “thine”- so that’s why I thought I’d mention it.
Baaaahahahaha! That ‘woot’ in the second panel made me laugh so hard! I can’t help but imagine Knight Bug speaking his line with great volume and gusto, only to have Swordsmith Bug reply with a small, simple, ‘woot’.
Man, I’ve been laughing my butt off (not much to spare) the last two weeks. Love your humor.
As an aside, was waiting in airport for flight and noted all the guys in camo getting ready to ship out. I suddenly pictured bug in a scenario of all the service guys going to the lounge in the airport set up for them and it’s decorated camo – and they can’t find anything or themselves….
Swords can still be useful. I heard of a guy who was breaking into a house through a window when suddenly the lights went on and a Rennfaire-type was holding a sword pointed at his chitlins (though refraining, I think, from saying “Maketh my day!”). Prospective burglar extracted himself from window and hied over the horizon.
Hah, I’ve actually had a friend of mine do similar. Although he was threatening the burglar with a Halberd. (I don’t know why he owns a halberd. But he does.) Apparently a large guy clad in boxers, holding a halberd and screaming bloody murder is very frightening- the burglar bolted.
Halberds and polearms are great, nice distance and weight, though I prefer a axe.(not for burglars, but for decor.) for burglars, Ill take a 4-60magn. 🙂
I just have this story to share people will laugh.
There’s a story (probably apocryphal) in LARP and re-enactment circles of a youth who tried to mug a man at knifepoint in a deserted street. The man laughed at him. Panicked, the youth attempted to stab him and the knife broke on the chain mail the man was wearing beneath his clothes. The youth fled, pursued by his would-be victim… armed with a broadsword.
Mugger: (brandishing a switchblade) I’ve got six inches of steel here that says you’re going to give me your wallet.
Re-enactor: I’ll see your six (drawing full-sized longsword from under his cloak) and raise you 30.
I protest! I mean to get a samurai sword to actually train, one swordsmith will be proud XD… The samurai said the sword has a life of it’s own, imagine how it would be to be the sword of the last panel bug, forgotten in the corner, remembered to open cheerios…I weep for them XD
I like how each sword is slightly different from the others. Knight bug gets the fancy shaped one, ren-faire bug gets the really oversized sword and LotR bug has the one with fancy gems on the edges of the guard and the handle. Really nice detail.
Actually, I’m pretty sure they love living in the modern age. After all, there was no way to produce high carbon or carbon-chromium-vanadium steel in the Dark or Middle Ages.
Many well-made modern blades can easily outperform older blades.
First?
No, it’s actually the *second* day of Ramadan, but thanks for playing.
Above me ,is a winternet
Souljacker… is that an eels reference?
A+ comic
Or freaks that think they are ninjas trying to hide behind trees and lamp posts waaaaay to small for their ample buttocks!!
Please not I am not speaking from personal experience here – no really…..
Should I mention that fencing swords make great skewers for BBQs? Just sayin
Nerd Bug, first panel, pure awesome. *THBBBBBTTTT*
I have a new avatar.
Nice! 😀
Nice avatar Joreal. I couldn’t be mad at the fat bug, look how HAPPY he is.:D
Price drop! Scimitars are handy for slicing water melons.

Sorry, amateur linguist nerd rambling.
I debated having the renaissance bug say “mine Ford Focus”, but I thought that might be too much.
It’s in proximity to a current-day term, so it works pretty well as “my”.

I know right, It’s a good workout laughing at a bug comic everyday. I’ve shed a few pounds because of it myself! You’re changing lives Adam! ^_^
Love the last panel!

My father is, amongst other things, a swordsmith. The above comic is actually quite accurate. Seriously.

Does anyone else hear “Comic Book Guy”‘s voice from The Simpsons in panel 4 for the fat bug?
I do know, thanks very much 😉
And his name is Jeff Albertson, by the way 🙂
@ Jeff It was excatly who i was pictureing when i saw this ! 🙂
Note… when will we see a fat lady bug ? 😉
i would also like to see a fast lady bug
What about fat guys who think they could totally be Legolas?
Or by many different assorted weirdos that attend Comic-Con. Those costumes would be a strip of their own, eesh.
On an unrelated note, I love the adorably fat bug. Even the corners of his head are rounded! 😀
More fat guy bug!
Thanks for making this one, Im a black/swordsmith in real life, so this kinda brightened my day.

I think many make the best of the situation since they don’t have to obey such piddling things as “practicality” anymore.
Actually, I’m pretty sure they love living in the modern age. After all, there was no way to produce high carbon or carbon-chromium-vanadium steel in the Dark or Middle Ages.
Many well-made modern blades can easily outperform older blades.
Additionally, I own a small armory of blades, and do not belong in either of these categories per say. I just like knowing how to wield a blade.
