The fact that you used the correct ASL sign for “thank you” means a lot to me. My wife and I learned it as another way to talk with our kids.
Fun fact: children can learn to sign and communicate their needs quicker than speech. While their sponge-like brain can understand the words you’re saying, the connections for the mouth to make words hasn’t formed yet. But mimicking basic motor movements is the first thing it wants to do.

But since they’re already learning basic motor skills to move and play, sign language is a natural progression when you use out around them.
