FEAR NOT! Using the power of Netflix, I, a man in my mid-20s, have taken on the Herculean task of watching the entire series. I have just started Season 8 and it is a glorious sitcom.
One of my friends did that with his first wife. Gave her some DVDs and told her that she had to watch them or else she’d never understand what he was talking about.
(Of course, that didn’t help HIM to understand HER…)
Doesn’t work if it turns out that you have a lot in common. I (nearly 30) talked to a coworker (mid fifties) about how we learned typing using a typewriter instead of a PC… that made me feel old.
I don’t just remember “Maude”, I remember when Carol Burnett did a parody of it (called “Broad”). And if you tell me that you don’t remember Carol Burnett, then I will END YOU.
I loved Carol Burnett. It absolutely killed me to see the actors struggle to keep a straight face as they played off each other. That sense of fun… ahh, memories…
Ahhhhhhhhh, Nooooo, I was doing so well and you had to bring that one up…. I’m going to be singing about the damn hillbillies for the next week. I hope your happy!!!
Given all the cable channels, YouTube, streaming services, etc., the is a very high probability that there is a youngster out there, some where, watching Maude as you read this.
There are at least five youtube links which claim to have that whole movie. I can’t bear to watch even the trailer. I was trying to find Christine Lavin’s song about her great aunt or somebody being in that movie.
I was born well after the Howdy Doody show left the air, but the references were (are?) still lingering, so this seems rather mild. And as a kid, I did have some confusion about Maude / Mod Squad. Hey, I was young.. then.
Try being 24 and trying to find some one to talk to about Mister Ed, Pokemon and games before the ps2. I have yet to find anyone that can talk about all 3.
Azure dreams, wally, or surfin pikachus, anybody?
The resurgence in popularity of the Golden Girls means there’s a lot of young people who know Bea Arthur. There’s even been a fusion of the murder mystery episode with Danganronpa! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfI2byQD30k
The joke in the last panel being made extra potent by the theme already playing in my head from the first panel. Oh, well played, sir.
heh… thats a clever titl-
OH GOD NO!
I know how you feel.
I entered my office today uttering ‘Groundhog Day’ and I found myself having to explain why to co-workers, because they never saw it.
I have the same problem with Cheers. One of my all time favorite shows and I find myself having to explain it to some. Sigh

PS Rebecca >>>>>>>>>>>> Diane
Heresy.
And that is why you have older people as friends!
Or you force your friends to watch the show.

Of course! You seniors make me feel like a toddler.

I remember Red Skelton, but I don’t suppose many others do now. (I also remember Buster Keaton, but I think he made only one movie in my lifetime.)
Red Skelton has always been one of my favorites. Him and Dick Van Dyke. Then again, I’m an old geezer of 55, so…
Buster Keaton played the wandering father looking for his stolen twins in A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. Amongst others.
Buster Keaton was also on an episode of The Twilight Zone.
I almost hurt myself from laughing at him during an episode of Candid Camera. He was absolutely brilliant.
I saw this movie around the late seventies, and laughed like crazy. Every now and then Buster would wander by in a scene….
Thanks for reminding me of that terrible show. Now that stupid theme song will be in my head all day. I hope you’re HAPPY!
I’ll fix that if you come and listen to a story about a man named Jed.
Ahhhhhhhhh, Nooooo, I was doing so well and you had to bring that one up…. I’m going to be singing about the damn hillbillies for the next week. I hope your happy!!!

Two words… Adrienne Barbeau.
yep…. Adrienne Barbeau
As seen in “Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death.” Great, awful movie, just plain weird, plus you get to see Bill Maher try to act!

Two “words”? heh
The weirdest part of it is imagining someday having to explain to our grandkids what The Simpsons was.
I already have issues explaining my nephews what the N64 was.
Hehehe, good play there, Priest-bug!
Spectacularly filthy joke in panel 3 – I approve 😉
Wow – that joke went completely over my head until you pointed out that it was filthy – then, of course, I got it!
The reference in panel three, OUCH!!! Along those lines http://chainsawsuit.com/comic/2010/07/15/two-cops-again/
Cheers!
I think you need a new typeface. Every time I look at the first panel, I see “MALIDE” instead of “MAUDE.”
I’m a young n00b so I’m going to ask: What shows are we talking about?
Search engines – they are your friend.
But ’80s nostalgia is cool now!
Ironic, considering this comic came out on my (20th) birthday today, and that’s a show I watched (in reruns) as a kid.
Can you remember the name of both the Findley housekeepers? Without the internet?
Oh crap, florida was one…and that one chick from like jamaca or something. Florida was deffinatly there, amd so was Blanch debaroux.
So who’s got the last rites covered for the priest bug who remembers it well enough to make that joke?
As a 20 year old who adores The Golden Girls, I find this strip highly disorienting.
I was born well after the Howdy Doody show left the air, but the references were (are?) still lingering, so this seems rather mild. And as a kid, I did have some confusion about Maude / Mod Squad. Hey, I was young.. then.

Yummy comic. The title? Even better.
