This actually isn’t a crazy idea — and it is one of the applications that the developers of the technology have in mind. Exosuits would probably be much MORE useful for the elderly, infirm, or disabled than they would for soldiers.
I imagine it’ll probably initially be funded by the military, then bleed over to the civilian sector afterwards, but I’m not exactly educated on the subject.
No thanks :U I have seen far too many ‘ye olde’ tantrums and been glad of frailty “Grandma, you can’t spit on store clerks D: We’ll just go somewhere else if he’s a smart arse”
Yeah, as much as I could use one of those things, it’s a little scary. My college roommate said she and her sister couldn’t wait to get old so they could get away with anything….
When my mother got her hip replaced, I asked her, “with what”? She told me that they refused to put either a laser cannon OR a jetpack in, so she had to make do with another hip. She was disappointed.
My grandmother is 73 and she raises horses and livestock on a little farm in florida. She can beat me at arm wrestling and goes out every morning with a shotgun to hunt snakes near her house. If she had a cyborg suit, she would be unstoppable.
You know, I never really understood why these versions of exoskeletons are supposed to be so ideal for soldiers. Sure, there’s the enhanced strength and everything, but it seems like if you’re going to be getting shot at constantly, you’d want a robot suit that had some armor on it instead of just being metal rods attached to your limbs. You might be cybernetically enhanced, but you’ve still got a lot of squishy parts for the enemies to aim at, and it’s hard to punch foes for justice from across the room. That’s where they’re supposed to end up *after* you punch them.
and of course fight crime!

This is brilliant!! You should contact Hollywood with this idea, it’s comedic gold!
I agree! Comedy gold AND practical AND beneficial!
“I’m bringing crowbars for her to bend” XD
Best line ever XD
Bending crowbars is all well and good, but what do you with all them afterwards???
Maybe she can also straighten them.
I’m thinking someone is liking the new Call of Duty…
This is a good idea for Terminator 12: G’pa Resurrection.
Starring Geriatric Ahnuld!
They do:

Cyberdyne, seriously?
And they have a robotic computer system called HAL ™?
If my name was Dave, Sarah, or John, I’d be extra concerned.

The comic made me smile.
The title made me laugh out loud! Hah! Six Million Dollar Gran… Gold!
Perfect – sending this to my dad, he just got a new hip and the kids are calling him robo-grandpa!
